Ulead PhotoImpact 12 - A complete set of tools for image edition with many options and settings to establish the different effects to apply for rendering, improving, modifying and fiting standars for web pages, DVDs, etc. For hobbysts and professional users.
Import ans export facilities. The "save as" command offers all kinds of picture files formats (Windows, Amiga, Mac, Sun, etc.), and there's another option to save the file for Video and Web. Blog pages, DVD menus, buttons, and more.
The user can create greeting cards, calendars, add frames, share photographs, print pictures, disc labels, attach to emails, etc.
The user interface is full of options. By selecting the upper tabs (s)he can adjust parameters, touch-up and correct photographs, add effects, etc. with single mouse clicks. Automatic White Balance, 16bit and RAW file compatible, etc.
Creative tools for painting, drawing, copying, special effects, 2D and 3D effects, professional filters, etc.
Four modes of operation to set the number of tools and menus to use:
ExpressFix mode for fixing common photographs deffects as colorcast, saturation, focus and exposure. It displays a double image window for comparison purposes, previous picture and modify picture, to undo or increase the effect depth. Some corrections don't need user actions, as automatic noise reduction and others. Basic enhancements are suggested by the application and displayed as a thumbnail to inform the user and let him(her) choose to apply them or not. It's more than enough for enhancing goog pictures and for recovering mediocre photographs.
Full Edit mode is the complete set of tools, including layers management and deeper treatment of the above mentioned tools.
Video & DVD mode offer tools for creating menus to apply to DVD or Video outputs.
Web mode is for web pages graphics.
Advantages:
- Complete set of tools for photo and picture management. Undo feature with history added to select which one to recover. Good help file.
Disadvantages:
- The layers management is a little difficult. The filters to apply are short and some effects are applied without showing even a previous thumbnail. It requires almost 750Mb of dedicated disk space.
